Cleveland’s West Side Market – Cleveland, OH

I got to experience the West Side Market for the first time a couple of years back. Since then, anytime I take a trip to Cleveland, a stop at the market for breakfast and a bit of shopping is always figured into the schedule.  It has sort of become a tradition to stop for crêpes and coffee before shopping for items to take home.  *I will share with you the tastiness that is “Crêpes De Luxe” in my next post, but first a little bit about the market…

Market EntranceThe market is located at the corner of West 25th and Lorain and can be easily spotted by its 137 foot clock tower. The structure is reminiscent of an old train station with brick walls and a high arched ceiling.

There is a fair amount of parking in the lot behind the building and it has front, rear and side doors allowing easy access to the market.

(Note: The market is only open 4 days a week; Mon., Wed., Fri. & Sat.)

Built/dedicated in 1912, it is home to over 100 vendors and represents many ethnic tastes such as Polish, German, Hispanic, Italian, French, Asian and Mediterranean.

In addition to the many choices of fresh fruits and vegetables, you will also find numerous selections of meats, poultry, seafood, dairy products, baked goods, pastas, herbs, seasonings, teas, coffees, confections and much more…

If you are a person of convenience, you can purchase ready-made (hand-made) items
such as Pierogies, Raviolis, Enchiladas, etc. to take home and cook later.
(Note: most items are freezable for up to 6 months).

And if that wasn’t enough, if you find yourself a bit hungry, there are numerous places to get food to eat while you are walking around. Items like Gyros, Bratwursts, Crêpes, Sandwiches, and pastries or you could chose to sit down in the attached West Side Market Café for a more leisurely meal.

(This trip resulted in the purchasing a selection of specialty pierogis, some butternut squash stuffed ravioli, portabello mushroom gnocchi, and some assorted spices.)

Whatever your taste, West Side Market has something for everyone. If you ever find yourself in Cleveland area, make it a point to stop in, check it out and experience it first-hand.
